Body Shops & Insurance Providers: How to work through your car accident damage
After a car crash, several things happen quickly — the police arrive, information is exchanged, and any medical problems are handled. However, once all that is settled, you need to work with an insurance company to get your wrecked car fixed.
So, step one, according to Consumers’ Checkbook, is finding out which insurance company (yours or the other party’s) is responsible for paying for the repair, and then reporting the accident as soon as possible. From there, the company will likely give you instructions on what to do.
One possibility, for if your car only has minor damage and you are certain there are no safety- or structure-related issues, is that the company will ask you to use a drive-in claims center to get an authorized repair-cost figure.
From there, you can go to the auto body shop of your choice. The insurance company will likely recommend body shops, but probably the best option is to pick one that you know and who is familiar with your vehicle and its history, such as our service center right here at Tipton Auto. With experience working on your vehicle before, our technicians would have a frame of reference that some other, random body shop can’t match. Thanks to that, our mechanics can more accurately determine the extent of the damage.
Finally, you submit the bill for the repairs to your insurance company, and get reimbursed for the cost of the damage.
Hopefully, this will help clear up any confusion that may result after a crash, and get you back in your (fixed) vehicle as soon as possible. Just keep in mind that our friendly service staff at Tipton Auto is ready and waiting in case of an auto accident, should you need our help.
